Robotmesh.com is home to our online store for robotics parts as well as the Robot Mesh Studio service where you can create projects to control real or virtual robots, share projects, and build a community.
At Robot Mesh, we understand how important privacy is to our users, especially children, students, parents, and teachers. This Privacy Policy explains what personally identifiable information we collect through our Services, how we use it, and what we’re doing to keep it safe. This Privacy Policy is a part of our Terms of Use; capitalized terms in this Privacy Policy that are not defined in this Privacy Policy may be defined in the Terms of Use. As used in this Privacy Policy, “personally identifiable information” means information that would allow a party to identify you, such as your name, address or location, telephone number, or email address. By accessing or using any of the Services, you are accepting and agreeing to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you have any questions, please contact us at support@robotmesh.com.
Please do not share personally identifiable information in forum posts, comments, or projects which are shared publicly. If you find personally identifiable information on our website, please report it to us so we can remove it and remind the author of our policy.
What we collect
It is not necessary to make an online account to buy products from the Robot Mesh store or to create robotics programs with Robot Mesh Studio. However:
- You must be at least 18 years old to buy parts through the online store and provide your name, email address, and address during the checkout process.
- To store your robotics programs on robotmesh.com you will need to create a login account.
Account Information
During account creation, we ask you for a username and your birth month and year. If you are 13 years old or older we will also ask for your name and email address. We ask that you select a username that does not disclose your real name or other information that could identify you. When you post in forums or make projects public, other users will be able to see your username, but not your age, name, or email address.
Users under Age 13
Except as otherwise specifically stated in this Privacy Policy, Robot Mesh does not collect any personally identifiable information from persons under 13 years old.
Team Edition and Education Edition
In connection with Robot Mesh’s Team Edition and Education Edition, when student user accounts are created as members of a team or a class by a team mentor or class teacher, the student user’s real name and optionally email address (“Student Personal Information”) are collected. Robot Mesh does not collect any other personally identifying information about student users for Team Edition or Education Edition accounts. Except as otherwise specifically stated in this Privacy Policy, Robot Mesh will only disclose the Student Personal Information collected in connection with Team Edition and Education Edition accounts to refer to the user within the Services for the particular team or class to which the user belongs.
Every team mentor or class teacher overseeing student user accounts hereby authorizes Robot Mesh’s uses of student names and email addresses as described in this Privacy Policy.
Payment Information
Robot Mesh does not store your credit card number. Transactions placed through the Robot Mesh Store transact immediately with our credit card provider (PayPal), and the credit card number is not stored. All PayPal transactions are subject to the PayPal Privacy Policy.
User-generated content
All of your projects, programs (code and description text), comments, and forum posts are stored on the Robot Mesh servers. Other users can see your shared projects, comments, and forum posts, along with your username. Because the Robot Mesh Team is responsible for moderation and technical support, we have access to all content stored on the Robot Mesh website, including unshared projects. Unshared projects will never be shared with any other user, team, or third party.
Usage Information
When you use robotmesh.com, our servers will automatically store a limited amount of information about how you use the website. This information includes a number that identifies your computer (the IP address), which pages you visited, and what type of computer and browser you are using.
Google Analytics
We also collect some data on where you click and which parts of the site you visit using Google Analytics. This "click data" helps us figure out ways to improve the website. Information collected and processed by Google Analytics includes an anonymized version of the user's IP address, network location, and geographic location. Google Analytics acquires all its information directly from the user by installing a cookie (see below) on your computer. Robot Mesh does not share any information it collects with Google, and Google does not collect any personally identifiable information about you.
Cookies
The Robot Mesh website asks your browser to put an http "cookie" on your computer. The cookie is a small text file that our website can send to your browser for storage on your computer. This allows the website to remember that you are logged in when you go to a different page.
How we use your personally identifiable information
We collect every user’s age so that we know who is using our website. Upon account creation, we only collect the name and email address from users 13 years old or over.
We will use your email address to respond to messages you send us or to communicate with you about the Robot Mesh services or your account.
We send out occasional email updates about Robot Mesh to the email address on your account. You can unsubscribe from these updates by clicking the unsubscribe link found at the bottom of the email.
If we detect repeated abusive behavior from your account, IP address, or email address, we may share your account name, IP address, and the time and content of the abusive behavior with the IP address owner (such as a school or internet service provider).
Robot Mesh is an authorized distributor of VEX Robotics parts. The shipping name and address and any VEX Robotics parts in an order may be shared with VEX Robotics Inc. only for the purposes of arranging drop-shipped deliveries and, on aggregate, for market analysis. Note that only adults may place orders on robotmesh.com
We may use de-identified location, age, and usage data in research studies intended to improve our understanding of how people learn with Robot Mesh Studio.
Other than as described above, we will never share personally identifiable information about you with any other person, company, or organization, except Robot Mesh may disclose your personally identifiable information to third parties in a good faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to:
- take action regarding suspected illegal activities;
- enforce or apply our Terms of Use or this Privacy Policy;
- comply with legal process, such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order;
- protect Robot Mesh’s rights, reputation, and property, or that of its users, affiliates, or the public; or
- transfer the data on our servers to another location or organization for technical reasons.
If Robot Mesh is required to provide a third party with your personally identifiable information (whether by subpoena or otherwise), then provided we have collected and retained an email address for you, we will use reasonable means to notify you promptly of that event, unless prohibited by law or we are otherwise advised not to notify you on the advice of legal counsel.
How can I update or erase my personal information?
You can update your username, password, and, if applicable, your name and email address (if over 13 years of age) through the Account page on robotmesh.com.
If you have placed orders through the Robot Mesh store, you can view your previous orders and update your default billing and shipping addresses through the Account Page.
If additional assistance is required to change or delete inaccuracies within your personal information, please contact us at privacy@robotmesh.com.
To erase your personal information, you will need to delete your account. Deleting your account will also terminate access to the services on robotmesh.com. To delete your account, please contact us at privacy@robotmesh.com.
How does Robot Mesh protect my information?
We have in place physical and electronic procedures to protect the information we collect on the robotmesh.com website. We strictly limit individual access to the Robot Mesh servers and the data we store on them.
All communication between the web-browser and the Robot Mesh servers is encrypted over a secure HTTPS connection.
If you receive an email that looks like it might be from Robot Mesh asking for your personal information, do not respond. We will not request your password, username, credit card information, or other personal information through email.
However, as effective as these measures are, no security system is impenetrable. We cannot completely guarantee the security of our database, nor can we guarantee that the information you supply will not be intercepted while being transmitted to us over the Internet.
Transnational Transfer of Data
We transmit your data, including your personally identifiable information, to the United States. The Data Processors used are certified under the US-EU Privacy Shield and are subject to a Data Processing Addendum with us.
Links to other websites
Our product pages and user project pages may contain links to content on other websites of interest (e.g. vexrobotics.com or youtube.com). Once you have used these links to leave our website, you should note that we do not have any control over the other websites. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide while visiting such other websites and such other websites are not covered by this privacy policy.
Notifications of Changes to the Privacy Policy
We review our security measures and Privacy Policy on a periodic basis, and we may modify our policies as appropriate. We may also change or update our Privacy Policy if we add new services or features. If we make any changes to our privacy practices, we will amend this Privacy Policy accordingly and post the amended policy on the robotmesh.com website. We encourage you to review our Privacy Policy on a regular basis. If we make any material changes to our Privacy Policy affecting users of the Team Edition or Education Edition, we will provide prominent notice before the amended Privacy Policy takes effect to each team mentor and class teacher overseeing student accounts.
